STEP 7 – Configuring the phone and the bar code reader

The phone and bar code reader work in a blue tooth wireless environment. Information is passed from the scanner to the handset this way. The Baracoda Road Runner is one of the most advanced, durable and reliable units on the market. It comes with many advanced features and configuration options. Please read the Road Runner notes at the end of this step to ensure your scanner is set up properly for your usage.

To use the software on the handset the first time, you will need to “pair” the phone with the bar code reader.

  1. Turn on (wake up) the bar code scanner by pressing its main button. NOTE – YOU MUST DO THIS FIRST
  2. From the icon called AirMobility on your handset, click this to run.
  3. If you are running AirMobility for the first time, it will ask you to enter in the 10 digit phone number of the handset (please do so when prompted) and select OK/Enter.
  4. This will start the process of AirMobility retrieving form data from the server and take you to the main menu of AirMobility.
  5. Within one minute, the Motorola phone will pop up a display asking you to enter in a code for the bar code scanner. The code in all cases is four zeros: 0000. This will have properly set the bar code reader to the software and will not be needed to be entered again. Note – in some cases you will need to click on the Job Completed Form (see Step 9) to trigger the pop up to occur.
  6. After configured and when the units are deployed to the field force, the Motorola phone and Baracoda bar code scanner will pop up an information screen stating that the phone found the bar code reader. This may happen right when you start AirMobiltiy.Net or it may delay itself until you are already in the AirMobility program. This will happen every time the program is used.

Note – if you try to set up multiple phones and scanners at the same time in the same room, you may experience some blue tooth confusion among the devices. To solve this problem, initially set up one phone and one scanner at a time with the others ones off or in a different room.

Road Runner Notes – the default of the Baracoda Road Runner put the scanner to sleep in a few minutes of non use. This is configurable and it is encourage per the use of Clear Channel to adjust this to Infinite. The scanner battery power behaves more like an alarm clock than a cell phone. Even in Infinite mode, the batter should last for several days if not longer per CCO usage. Adjustments to the Road Runner unit are conducted by scanning in proprietary codes. Click the .PDF below to download the Baracoda document. You will find the Infinite setting on page 5. Print this page and scan (also, in most cases the reader can pick up the scan right off your computer monitor when displayed).
